Injury: Fracture of C-5/6 vertebrae
Cause: Motorcross accident
Place: Upstate New York
Date: July 2, 1992
Brian, who grew up actively involved with mechanical activities, suffered a spinal cord injury while motor cross racing in New York. He had been practicing a jump and fell off his bike, falling head first. Brian had just graduated high school and had planned on managing a automobile repair shop.
After spending four months in rehabilitation at Craig Hospital in Denver, Brian began peer counseling for others with spinal cord injuries. He then went on to complete his undergraduate degree in Social Work at Colorado State University. He is currently in the Master's program for Social Work.
SCORE was pleased to assist Brian with the purchase of a van which allows him to go to school, hold an internship and a job.
