Injury: C-5/6 vertebrae
Cause: Dirt bike accident
Place Date: December 6, 2003
In December 2003, Jamie went over the handle bars of his dirt bike while practicing for a race. His C-5/6 vertebrae were crushed and had to be rebuilt with bone from his hip. Initially on a ventilator, Jamie's recovery has progressed such that he can breathe on his own, and has some use of his biceps, shoulders and wrists. Jamie is generally able to use a manual wheel chair, but struggles to push it up inclines and to control it on declines.
SCORE is providing a grant to Jamie so that he can obtain power-assist wheels for his chair --- these wheels will alleviate the terrain problems and grant Jamie more mobility and independence.
