Sammy Hughes

Sammy, a 1st Team All-County defensive back, suffered a spinal cord injury while making a tackle against a Brantley High running back. As result of the injury which fractured two cervical vertebrae, Sammy only has limited functionality in his right arm but has worked hard at his rehabilitation at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta prior to returning to his home in the Orlando area.

Sammy is a true superstar --- his accolades and praise from his coaches and peers are inspiring. Greg Register, his coach at Oviedo High, said Sammy is "the best kid you'll ever have... He's unreal. You can't say enough good things about him." In addition to his football success, Sammy has twice had Top 10 Finishes in state weightlifting competitions and has been a distinguished varsity wrestler.
